The legal battle over a pricey pup with medical problems highlights the danger of buying a dog bred in a mill, animal advocates said Wednesday.
The ASPCA says there are 10,000 commercial breeders in the country that could be defined as mills — which have been accused of overbreeding and unhealthy conditions.
And consumers really have to dig deep to find out if that doggy in the window came from one.
“Unfortunately sometimes knowing the name of a facility doesn't tell the whole story,” said Elinor Molbegott, legal counsel for the Humane Society of New York.
